All School Reunion
Below is an update regarding the 2008
Northwood/Northwood-Kensett All School Reunion to be held on Saturday July 5th
2008.
The 2008 NHS, N-KHS All-School Reunion
will be held on Saturday,
July 5 in Swensrud Park.
Previous all-school reunions were held in connection with
Northwood’s Centennial in 1958 and as well as the quasquicentennial
in 1983.
On Saturday, July 5th,
the elementary and the jr.-sr. high school buildings will be open
for student-led tours from 9 until 11 a.m.
Because of limited parking space in Swensrud Park, visitors
will be asked to park their vehicles near one of the school sites.
Six school buses with student attendants will shuttle guests
from the school sites to the park and will return them to their
vehicles following the reunion program.
Only vehicles that are displaying “Handicapped” tags and
transporting alumni will be admitted into the park.
Through a generous grant from the
Worth County Development Authority to the all-school reunion
committee, six large tents have been rented from the Northwood
Men’s’ Club. The tents
will be set up around the perimeter of the park to serve as
hospitality centers for the various decades of alumni and will also
provide protection from the weather.
Sizable contributions from the
Northwoods State Bank and the Nortwhood-Swensrud Fund enabled the
committee to mail more than 3,000 letters last fall to all NHS and
N-KHS graduates from the classes of 1930 through 2007 inviting the
alumni, their spouses, and family members to attend the all-school
reunion. The invitations
to the reunion were also sent to former faculty members.
The committee has made arrangements
with Venechucks’ Backroads Catering, Signature’s Catering, and the
Worth County High School Beef Team to serve food in the park from
11:00 until 1:00. Their
menus will offer a variety of substantial food items, including
beef, pork, and poultry selections for reunion guests to purchase.
There are no fees or registration
charges connected with the reunion; the only cost to those attending
will be the food they choose to purchase for the noon meal.
In order for the committee to make arrangements for food and
other accommodations, alumni were asked to return, by March 1, the
response portion of the letter they received and indicate how many
of their family members would plan to attend the reunion and how
many planned to eat the noon meal in the park.
A program will begin at 1:00.
Because of many other activities scheduled for the afternoon
and evening and because as many as 12-14 classes will be celebrating
significant year class reunions later that day, the program will be
short.
Following the program, the shuttle buses will
return guests to their vehicles at the school sites.
